Preparing For Your Fort Lauderdale Tummy Tuck Surgery

Preparations made before undergoing a tummy tuck can facilitate a timely and safe recovery. South Florida Center would like to offer a few key pre-operative steps for you to take to make your recovery from abdominoplasty as comfortable as possible.

During your initial consultation, we will make a thorough assessment of your abdominal health, including the location of fat, the tone of muscles and the condition of your skin. We will request your complete medical history, all current medications, known allergies and any prior surgeries. We will also conduct a thorough physical examination, including blood tests. Patients over forty years of age will undergo an electrocardiogram.

Photographs will be taken both before and after your procedure. These images will help our surgeons plan an exact procedural strategy to meet your unique goals.

Your surgeon will offer specific steps for you to take in preparation for your tummy tuck. These instructions are likely include cautions against taking certain medications or drinking alcohol, and minor alterations in your bathing routine.

Smoking and any use of aspirin or diet pills must stop a minimum of two weeks prior to your procedure. You must not eat food or drink anything, even water, for the last eight hours that lead up to your procedure. If you take any medication daily, be sure to ask your surgeon if it is safe to take before your tummy tuck. Also tell your surgeon if you have any allergies, a common cold, a sore throat or sores of any kind.

The Day of Your Surgery

On the day of your abdominoplasty you will shower using an anti-bacterial soap that we will provide. We ask that you wear no jewelry and use no styling products, conditioners, lotions, perfumes, deodorant or make-up. The best clothing to wear on the day of your procedure is a button-up shirt with sweat pants or some other type of loose-fitting pants. Slippers or thick socks can help prevent the chills sometimes caused by anesthesia.

Your surgeon will determine whether or not your tummy tuck is to be performed as an outpatient or inpatient procedure. In either case, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home and provide care for you for at least the first 24 hours that follow your return home.

Wise planning before your tummy tuck can make for a safe and relaxing healing process. The staff at the Center for Cosmetic Surgery is always available to answer any questions you have, so please call us as needed.
