Liposuction Recovery
Most of our liposuction patients report that their recovery process was more pleasant than expected. While the discomfort during recuperation from lipoplasty is generally mild, we will provide you with the pain medication necessary to make this brief period as relaxing as possible. At South Florida Center, your comfort and safety are always our most important priorities. We are excited also to offer the new SmartlipoTM procedure to reduce discomfort and recovery time for our patients with relatively small fat deposits.
We will place you in a support garment after your liposculpture. It is important that you wear this special garment for the one-to-three week period determined by your surgeon. Also important for your recovery are proper bandage care, alterative bathing methods, some dietary adjustments and gentle exercises that will include deep breathing techniques. Keeping your body properly hydrated during this time is critical as well, so we strongly recommend drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol.
Your stitches will be painlessly removed within a week of your liposuction procedure. Liposculpture scars are most typically only one or two millimeters in length and barely visible. Expect them to appear red or pink for several months before fading. Although surgical scars are permanent, the short ones left by lipoplasty most often fade to near invisibility. Nevertheless, the exact size and color of your healed scars will depend on factors that are not totally predictable, such as each patient's unique genetics.
Five percent of South Florida Center liposuction patients will opt for a secondary "touchup" procedure after six months or so, usually to remove additional fat. Before considering a second procedure, keep in mind that it will take a few months for the swelling to completely vanish and your new, sculptured look to appear.
