Preparing for Liposuction in MiamiThe preparations you take before undergoing lipoplasty can ensure a smooth recovery process. South Florida Center would like to recommend a few simple pre-surgery steps that will make your recovery short, safe and relaxing. During your initial visit with us, we will determine where your body tends to deposit its fat cells and assess the condition of your skin. We will ask for your complete medical history, including all current medications, known allergies and previous surgeries. This information will help us to establish that you are a candidate for liposuction and avoid unexpected complications down the road. A thorough physical examination and blood tests also will be necessary. Our surgeons find that photographs are helpful when they are planning an exact approach to your unique procedure. Photographs will be taken both before and after your procedure. Patients over forty years of age will undergo an electrocardiogram. During your consultation, you will be given specific steps to take in preparation for your procedure. These instructions may include cautions against taking certain medications or drinking alcohol, and protocols for shaving and using antibacterial soap. Smoking and any use of aspirin or diet pills must cease at least two weeks before your procedure. You must not eat food or drink anything, even water, for the last eight hours that lead up to your procedure. If you take any medication daily, be sure to ask your surgeon if it is safe to take before your liposuction. Also tell your surgeon if you have a common cold, a sore throat, allergies or sores of any kind. The Day of Your SurgeryOn the day of your lipoplasty you will shower using an anti-bacterial soap that we will provide. We ask that you wear no jewelry and use no styling products, conditioners, deodorants, perfumes, lotions or make-up. Ideal clothing to wear on the day of your procedure is a button-up shirt with loose-fitting pants or sweat pants. Slippers or thick socks can be important because anesthesia may cause chills. Most of our patients are allowed to go home the same day as their procedure, but you will need to make arrangements to have someone take drive you home and care for you for at least 24 hours after your lipoplasty. Planning effectively before your procedure can make for a more safe and relaxing healing process. The staff at the Center for Cosmetic Surgery is always available to answer your questions, so call us with any question or concern. For additional information, read Recovering from Liposuction.
